NEW DRESSAGE TESTS FOR 2009

Dear IEOC Regional Representatives and members,

Please find attached the 'proposals' for the 8 new FEI Eventing Dressage tests for 2009, and the 'shorter' version test, written specially for Hong Kong!

These tests have once again been 'composed' by Christoph Hess and Chris Bartle!

They have asked me to distribute them to the IEOC members, so that they can be 'tried out and discussed' worldwide, over the next 6 months.

I would be grateful if you would pass them on to the FEI Eventing Judges in your regions, and ask for their comments, which should then come back to me, so that I can collate them, and forward to Christoph and Chris!

After this period, they will make any necessary changes, before producing the 'final drafts' - which will be presented at the Top Officials Seminar, in February 2008 - at Waregem in Belgium.

Please note the explanations about the changes - especially the B version 4* - with the 3 flying changes on the diagonal - which is a bit more difficult then the present test.

This movement has been included by the wish of the chairman Wayne Roycroft, and David O'Connor - and Christoph and Chris are happy to fulfil this wish.

There's a great deal to look at and discuss, and I look forward to receiving your comments, so that we can ensure that the 'majority' of Judges are 'happy' with the new tests!

I have already asked Christoph to ensure that every test can easily be judged from EACH marker that's used for eventing - e.g. at B,M,C,H and E. Some of the 2005 tests that we are using at present require quite a bit of 'guesswork' from E or B, which is not GOOD!

If you have a chance to have these tests ridden, then please let us know your 'visibility' findings!

Also some events still present us with judge's boxes without 'side' [lateral] windows, which makes it even more difficult to judge - particularly at E or B, and often have to be sited much further back from the arena than in the rules, to provide any sort of a "view"!

There should be a ruling to make sure that - where judging 'boxes' are used - Event Organisers must provide them with side windows, and also with 'windows' that can be opened when necessary, for ventilation on warm days.

Boxes which are completely "Open" at the front, are exceedingly unfriendly on cold days, and are only suitable for warm climates - not cold days in Europe [or elsewhere]!

Indeed, perhaps some of you would like to produce some plans, dimensions, etc. for Judging Boxes, with the 'furniture' that should be inside - and include provision for an 'overhang' for shade from the sun, or protection from the rain on the window, when required?

The next rule changes will be made in 2009 - so this is a wonderful opportunity to 'have your say' on any rules that you feel need to be up-dated - please make use of it!

Kindest regards,

Jean Mitchell  [Secretary General IEOC]
